West-central Indiana
Wasn't the best day for chasing, but it made for a good after-work diversion. I left work a little bit early and drove northwest to Kentland, Indiana to refuel and strategize. The storms coming in from northeastern Illinois were falling apart and it seemed the show was over. There were several storms to the southeast, and I took a few pictures.
I decided to call game over and headed back. Almost immediately after arriving home, I saw storms developing to the west in eastern Illinois. I headed out again, this time to the west toward Pine Village. The sun began to set as the storm drew near and it was rather photogenic.
As the storm passed, the wind picked up quickly. I measured a gust of nearly 60mph, which I reported via the Skywarn net. I moved further west into the eastern "suburbs" of Pine Village, where I came upon a large tree limb across SR 26. Turning around to the east, I got hailed on, but the visibility was so low (read: zero) that I was unable to determine the size. If I had to guess, I'd say it was about half inch on average. I tried to get ahead of the storms to fill in some gaps in the spotter coverage in northern Montgomery county. However, my GPS crapped out whilst cruising the backroads of southern Tippecanoe county, so I gave up the chase. Not a bad day all in all. Preliminary Local Storm Reports
